Zones & Areas
Each section of the park has its own character and best season.
Groundwater forest
Lush tropical forest at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment. Habituated baboon troops, beautiful vervet monkeys and the chance of a tree-climbing lion at eye level.
Lake Manyara (shore)
The lake is the heart of the park: hippos in the shallow creeks, hundreds of pink flamingos in the rainy season and elephants pressing to the shore for water.
Open savanna
In the south of the park the vegetation opens up. Buffalo, zebra and impala live here in large numbers. Leopards are also spotted regularly.
