Everything for a carefree Tanzania journey

🛂

Visa

  • Dutch, Belgian and German citizens require a visa for Tanzania.
  • Easiest is to apply for an e-Visa via the official Tanzanian government website (evisa.go.tz) — cost approx. $50.
  • Processing takes 3–5 working days. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after return.
  • Visa on Arrival is also possible at Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam) and Kilimanjaro Airport (we do not recommend this).
✈️

Flights

  • Direct flights from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) take approx. 9–10 hours.
  • KLM, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and Turkish Airlines fly regularly to Tanzania.
  • Flights via Nairobi (NBO) or Doha (DOH) are often cheaper but take longer.
  • We arrange internal flights between parks and Zanzibar for you.
🌡️

Climate

  • Tanzania has two rainy seasons: the long rains (April–May) and short rains (November–December).
  • Dry season: June to October — best for wildlife, cooler temperatures (20–25°C daytime).
  • Peak season: July–August for the Great Migration and river crossings.
  • Ngorongoro is visitable year-round but can get quite cold at night (5–10°C on the crater rim).
💱

Currency & payment

  • Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the local currency, but USD is accepted everywhere.
  • Bring enough USD cash — credit cards don't work everywhere.
  • ATMs available in Arusha and Dar es Salaam. Barely in the parks.
  • Tips for guides: $10–20 per day per vehicle is customary.
📱

Communication

  • Mobile internet (4G) works well in cities but is sporadic in the parks.
  • Buying a local SIM card (Vodacom or Airtel) is cheap and easy at the airport.
  • WhatsApp works everywhere data is available — so we stay reachable during your trip too.
  • Power is 220V, British type G plug (3 flat pins) — bring adapters.
👜

Packing

  • Clothing in earth tones (khaki, beige, olive green) — bright colours scare animals.
  • Long sleeves for evenings — mosquitoes and cold. Sunscreen SPF 50+.
  • Binoculars are essential — at least 8x42 for good wildlife viewing.
  • Internal flights: luggage limited to 15 kg in soft bag (no hard suitcases).
