From Kilimanjaro Airport you drive to Moshi with the mountain's peak already visible above the clouds — a first glimpse of the summit you will stand on in a week. The gear check is thorough and personal: your guide goes through every item of clothing and every layer with you, checks your boots, assesses your sleeping bag and suggests adjustments where needed. After the briefing on route, altitude and pace you discuss over dinner acclimatisation, mental preparation and what it means to reach the roof of Africa. Tomorrow morning the adventure begins.
